CHANGEMAKER CHALLENGE

Turn youth ideas into action, visibility, feedback, and opportunity.

The Changemaker Challenge is the public-facing showcase and opportunity layer of Young InnoPreneurs. Young people present practical solutions, strengthen their storytelling, receive real-world feedback, connect with mentors, and identify the next step for promising ideas. The Challenge can be commissioned by schools, nonprofits, funders, civic partners, businesses, or community organizations around a defined theme, audience, opportunity, or community need.

Young adults staff a community engagement booth at an event.

Prepare

Youth strengthen the problem statement, solution logic, evidence, prototype, pitch, and story before presenting.

Present

Participants pitch, demonstrate, answer questions, and practice communicating to judges, mentors, partners, and community audiences.

Advance

Every participant leaves with documented feedback and a Next Opportunity Plan. Strong projects can move toward mentorship, partner introductions, implementation, additional learning, funding pathways, or sponsor-supported opportunity.

A capstone—not an isolated event.

The Challenge works best when it grows out of learning, youth voice, research, and project development. Expectations should match readiness: earlier-stage participants may present a well-understood problem and emerging concept, while advanced participants may present tested prototypes, implementation evidence, or growth plans. The goal is fair developmental challenge, not one-size-fits-all competition.

What a challenge can include

  • Community or partner challenge themes
  • Student pitch competitions and showcases
  • Mentor and judge engagement
  • Storytelling and presentation coaching
  • Certificates and recognition
  • Sponsor-supported awards or implementation support
  • Follow-up opportunities for selected projects

Engagement model: We scope the Challenge around the community question, participant readiness, timeline, judging or mentoring needs, safeguards, showcase format, and follow-through required. A focused pilot can be a single-site showcase or community challenge; larger engagements can add multi-site participation, mentor networks, sponsor support, implementation funding, or post-Challenge coaching. The Challenge fits the PROVE-stage workflow: diagnostic → placement → learning → evidence → showcase → advancement → next opportunity.

Challenge scoping: Challenge engagements are scoped to participant count, challenge design, facilitation, partner support, safeguards, showcase production, judging or mentoring, and follow-through requirements. We start with the smallest useful engagement and expand when the evidence and opportunity justify it.
